Seville, capital of Andalusia and Spain’s 4th largest city, is located between the Sierra Morena mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. Enjoying culture from the Romans, Visigoths, Muslims, Jews and Christians throughout the ages, and serving as the focal point of the Spanish Renaissance, Seville is rich in history and tradition. When visiting Seville one can experience the city as it was centuries ago. The lovely winding streets and active public squares of the Barrio Santa Cruz allow the visitor insight into the oldest portion of the city, and the list of monuments and historic sites is seemingly endless. The Tower of Gold once served as landmark for arriving ships and Seville’s amazing Cathedral houses the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The 12th century Moorish palace, the Alcázar, is the oldest palace-fortress still in use by European royalty. While studying, exploring the streets, visiting museums, or soaking up Spanish culture, API students in Seville gain a broad education in Spanish language and civilization.

Founded in 1502, the University of Seville is one of the most well-known universities in Spain. The University is located in the heart of the city. Students focus on language acquisition, cultural enrichment, and historic discoveries.

A Semester in Seville with API: The Greatest 5 Months of my Life

I took classes alongside Spanish students all conducted in Spanish at the Communications Department at the University of Seville. As these classes were fully integrated and not designed for English-speaking students, they were challenging and definitely required a very solid understanding of Spanish, particularly oral as classes were lecture based. I had just the right amount of work to keep me focused and to keep me learning, but it still allowed me to enjoy the new culture and city. I had enough time to make new local friends and spend time with them instead of being locked in my room studying all night. view full review

The workload is standard and everything is taught to you in Spanish, which is great. The only drawback is that some teachers do not openly tell you how you are doing in the class. In order to avoid that I suggest you ask for a regular progress report by having a conversation with your instructor. view full review

For the most part I loved my clases. There was one teacher that I had for 2 of my four classes that was pretty boring and did not use very effective teaching methods. But my other two teachers were great. I wish i could have been with Spanish locals too. view full review
