I loved the Instituto San Joaquin de Flores so much! The classes were so much fun and the professors were amazing. They were always high energy and were really enthusiastic about the information they were teaching. The classes were mostly a little bit of lecture and then discussion. If you are looking for an affordable study abroad program that still gives you a vast amount of experiences, choose this one! Make sure to take advantage of your weekends and travel all over Costa Rica. There is so much to see. I was there for 4 months and I still didn't get to do half the things that I wanted to. view full review

I loved the Institute! The professors were friendly and fun. The quaint setting and fresh fruit everyday really made my experience enjoyable. While there weren't other Costa Rican students, I enjoyed getting to know the teachers, staff and fellow American students. Studying abroad was easily the greatest decision I ever made for myself. For years I had told others and myself that studying abroad wasn't for me, but I was wrong. API made things easy. Having support teams in the states and in country were valuable. It wasn't cheap, but I can't put a price on my growth as a person both academically and personally. I had such an amazing adventure in Costa Rica. I personally grew so much, I learned a lot, and I practiced the language. It was amazing to live in a culture that is so different and not only about money, like America. My Heart is Still In Costa Rica!

I would definitely go to San Joaquin. It's a smaller program, so you have small classes and a small town feel. It is close enough to big cities so you can go out and to the malls whenever you want. I would reccommend Costa Rica in general to anyone who likes being adventurous outside. view full review

It was absolutely worthwhile. I really improved my Spanish and learned a lot about people in general. I feel like I learned a lot about life and culture from my Mama Tica and the other students in my group and even from the professors at the Institute. Spanish intensive cultural experience

The workload was average with only papers to write. The grading system was on a 10 point scale. The teachers are willing to help you if you are behind or are leaving on a trip and you need to make up a day. view full review
