South Africa: A study abroad like no other

There was a wide variety of classes offered at Stellenbosch and each of my professors were both knowledgeable and interesting. I was able to really learn about about South Africa up close an personal. The grading system was different than what I was used to in the US but the credits transferred over to my home university without a problem. view full review

This is an excellent program for students that want a study abroad destination that is off the beaten path, for students that don't want to struggle with language acquisition, for students that want to volunteer, and for students who love natural wonders. Stellenbosch university has a much tougher grading system than UHART. Hard to get A's on assignments. view full review

Classes in South Africa are much more independent than classes here in the states. You have lecture anywhere from once a week to four times a week depending on the class. Another component to class is called a tutorial which is a small group of about 15 kids who get together with a grad student and discuss the material more in depth. Yes! I've gained so much from my time abroad, for example I'm much more independent than I was when I left. I traveled across South Africa with two girlfriends and when I got back we all just looked at each other were so proud of ourselves because we successfully traveled a foreign country and that's a huge thing! Pack for multiple seasons. Get out of Stellenbosch as much as you can (hire a car, or even split buying one for the semester). Bring enough money to do all the great tings that there are to offer. Make sure you interract with the indigenous populations, they will teach you the best lessons. view full review

The workload was very light compared to that of PC. Each class generally only had 2 maybe 3 assignments for the entire semester, generally being research papers. The grading system worked heavily in my favor only needing a 75 and above to recieve an A. However some professors were expecting high quality writings.
