Every person can benefit from this program in their own way. Doing something like studying abroad is really about the attitude you have going into it. You have to be aware you must be willing to adapt to the different culture only then can you really enjoy it! view full review

Courses are only 3 weeks long but you actually learn a lot. The grading system is normal and it is pretty flexible for your travel arrangements. It worked perfectly. Teachers also were helpful in providing local knowledge and advice. view full review

The workload was no more than my home university. Most courses however had only a few things to base your grade on (ie: one midterm and one final, or a paper and a final). Although this was different than my classes I take at home, I still did well and enjoyed this setup. view full review

A Summer in London with AIFS Opened My Eyes to My Future!

I loved studying with AIFS in London. Not only were the professors knowledgeable about their subjects, but they were more than happy to help us navigate the area. More often than not we took class trips, or had lectures outside as opposed to staying in the classroom. The teachers in London don't give you much direction in papers and homework and expect you to go up to them and ask questions. Attendance is kept daily and you will get kicked out after skipping/missing a certain amount of classes. Most class grades are based on 2 or 3 exams/papers. view full review

When going to London: get an oyster card first thing, it will make your life easier, put your name on the guest list for clubs the night before and you won't have to pay cover, and get a student membership with the royal palaces because it pays itself off in two visits to any of the locations (Tower of London, Kensington, Windsor, Hampton Court), and don't be ashamed if yo... view full review

The courses that I took were more focused on a couple tests and a project than on any type of daily work. Attendance was required in all classes, and if you miss more than a certain number of classes you fail the class. The grading system was very similar to what I am used to with 100-90 being an A 89-890 a B and so on. The teachers performed lecture in most classes but th... view full review

While you are there TRAVEL. Don't be a complete stickler with your money, but don't crazy overspend either. Try new things, even if you don't think you'll like them, or don't seem like your type of activity. For example, I feel in love with clubbing. Which is SO not me. But is was so so so much fun. My life has been changed so drastically. I was stuck pre-London. I didn't know what direction I wanted to go, where I wanted to be after graduating with a BA. They may still be speaking English in London, but it's a different world than the US.

Professors were not available outside of class time and were not clear on a major assignment. We could not submit papers electronically when school was closed for a Bank Holiday and could not print the papers. view full review

Really enjoyed London, but our program was not that interesting to me. We took lots of trips around London, which were all a lot of fun, but I didn't much care for the course or the way the course was taught. view full review

I was so unimpressed with two professors which made one of the classes really awful to take. It's hard to be put into a new environment where most of the students have been taught by one particular professor for two years already and know his or her style. Teachers were generally less approachable than at my home university, and grading was much harder. We also only had a midterm, paper, and final for our grades which was much harder. However, this taught me more about education around the world so it was worth it. view full review

I absolutely loved going abroad and being in London even though it was only for 6 weeks. I experienced so many different things and was able to see so much. The day I got I began missing it, and hope to experience going abraod again at some point, even if it is not to study. I was not satisfied with the instructors. Majority of the instructors did not seem qualified. The grading seemed extremely subjective and some were not fans of Americans. view full review

It was very worthwhile. I gained knowledge and great memories from it and new friends as well. I was able to see things that I have been dying to see for years because of my interest in the Tudor period of England. It was a great expereince and it reminded me how fortunate I am. view full review
