India is a fascinating mix of ancient cultures and traditions, intriguing religions, and over 200 languages and dialects, combined with 21st-century technology and a growing international economy. Second only to China in population size, it is poised to become an ever larger player on the world stage. Spend a semester studying abroad with AIFS in India to get to know the many different faces of this diverse nation.

Students may also apply for the Community Engagement Program. The objective of the Community Engagement Program is to provide students with the opportunity to develop an understanding of the current issues impacting on community life in India and to learn about a people-centered approach to social change. Students experience firsthand the role of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in various development initiatives while earning academic credits.

There are numerous opportunities to make excursions into the city and surrounding environment.

The Resident Director organizes a variety of activities, which usually include:

* Hyderabad city tour
* Visits to local markets and bazaars
* Music, dance or theater performances showing India’s cultural traditions
* Festival celebrations based on the time of year (kite-flying, fireworks, dancing)
* Traditional meals to celebrate a special occasion, Indian or American holiday
* Cooking lessons with authentic Indian recipes
* Day visits to local sites including:
o Golconda Fort
o Charminar
o Chowmahalla Palace
o Qutb Shahi Tombs
o Hussain Sagar and Buddha Statue

* 4 day trip to Ajanta and Ellora
* 6-day Golden Triangle Tour
